Microneedling for Hair Growth
What is Microneedling?
Most popularly known as an anti-aging skin treatment, microneedling is also a treatment for for thinning hair, alopecia and hereditary hair loss.
Unlike other treatments that target your skin’s surface, microneedling treatment causes small micro injuries into the middle layer of the skin, where the most help is needed.
As these micro injuries heal, your skin produces more collagen and hair fibers. It also helps to strengthen the hair follicles, creating a double benefit of growing new, longer and stronger hair.
microneedling Treatments are effective at:
Microneedling produces stem cells in the scalp that lead to hair growth
Reduces inflammation in the hair follicles, setting the stage for a healthy scalp
Facilitates better absorption of hair growth products by the scalp
Unlike oral supplements, when hair growth metabolites and other products are micro needled into the scalp, they are bio available without having to be broken down by your digestive system. This is a huge benefit to boosting the effectiveness of the treatment.
Microneedling Gets Results:
In 2013, 94 men completed a study which tested the effects of microneedling on hair growth.50 were treated with microneedling and minoxidil. The remaining 44 with just minoxidil.
Both groups would apply the minoxidil twice daily, but the microneedling group would also receive a once-per-week microneedling treatment.
The participants in the microneedling group were instructed to not apply Minoxidil on the day of microneedling treatment, but resume application 24 hours after the procedure.
The microneedling group saw a significant increase in mean hair count (+91) over the Minoxidil-only group (+17) at the end of the 12 weeks.
As a plus, at Nina Ross we prefer the use of Mesotherapy and Growth Metabolite Serums, which have been proven to be 91% effective in hair regrowth, vs only 50% for minoxidil. Combining Mesotherapy and Microneedling is scientifically proven to be a powerhouse when it comes to hair growth.
Microneedling Treatments with Nina Ross
During your microneedling appointment with Nina Ross, we will create tiny, pain-free micro-injuries in order to induce a healing process on the scalp.
The scalp will respond by producing collagen and elastin which are two of the key building blocks of skin. As there is no removal or “real” damage to existing collagen, the new formation of it simply adds to existing levels. When new collagen is formed on the scalp, this creates the perfect environment for hair to grow.
If scalp circulation is poor, a vasodilator is used. If excessive inflammation is present, an all-natural, anti-inflammatory metabolite is used (ex. organic silicon).
Treatment:
The treatment itself, performed by our specialist, takes between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the extension of the area being treated.
During the treatment, a small quantity of our Fusion Mesotherapy formula is micro-needled directly into the scalp. While oral medications have to pass through the digestive system before being absorbed into the bloodstream, mesotherapy is delivered directly to the follicles.
This method multiples the effects of the formula and can provide more effective results than oral or topical solutions alone.
Frequency:
Usually a minimum of 10 sessions is required to stimulate hair growth. We recommend starting with an intensive course of treatments every 2 weeks for the first 2-3 months. The frequency then gradually decreases and the results of hair rejuvenation become evident already after 2-3 months.
In order to keep the results maintenance treatments are needed generally once every 2 to 3 months.
Microneedling FAQ’s
Is the Microneedling treatment safe?
Yes, Microneedling is 100% safe and it is rare for patients to experience any side effects from the treatment. We only use our own patent pending formula of FDA approved medications, natural vitamins and herbs.
Is the treatment painful?
The treatment is not painful. Many clients describe the feeling as a slight tickle. For those with extra sensitive skin we can easily minimize discomfort by administering a mild anesthetic compound before the procedure.
How soon can I expect to see results after the first treatment?
The results of any hair restoration treatments always vary between individuals, but in most cases it will take 3 – 4 months before results are noticeable.
Although some patients report good results within a few weeks of starting treatment, it’s better to allow three to six months for full effect of the treatment to develop.
Can this be used with PRP and hair loss medication?
Yes, your treatment plan might recommend PRP or medication as a part of your Fusion therapy, ask the experts at Nina Ross Hair and Skin Therapy for more information.
Last Notes on Microneedling
Keep in Microneedling isn’t a surgical procedure, so there generally aren’t as many risks involved. Some studies have noted slight improvements within three months of treatment, and more full effects after six months.
The exact timeline will vary, but most users will see gradual changes in hair growth, eventually leading to a fuller, longer set of healthy hair.
