Female Hair Loss
A large percentage of conditions causing hair loss in women are the result of inherited genetic influences, an over production of the male hormone testosterone, hormonal changes during and following childbirth, use of the contraceptive pill, anemia and menopause.
Female hair loss is also known as androgenic alopecia. It begins with thinning of hair at the top of the frontal region.
Research reveals that by the age of 50 years, around 40% of women show signs of hair loss.
Female pattern baldness can cause anxiety and lot of emotional turmoil as hair is attached to an individual identity. For women, hair is a crowning glory and losing it at any point in life can be very disturbing.
Since there are so many potential causes of hair shedding, it's vital to get an accurate diagnosis from a specialist.
Causes of Female Hair Loss
There are many factors that can lead to hair loss that sometimes are confused for simply genetics.
Female pattern baldness shows a certain pattern of hair loss with increasing scalp visibility and is seen often during menopause or post pregnancy.
Female pattern baldness too follows a typical pattern like male pattern baldness. Experts have identified three distinct stages of hair loss in women.
It is identified as hair loss that starts at the crown and frontal scalp portion. The frontal hairline is retained unlike in male baldness.
Female pattern baldness progresses as explained below,
Stage 1: Thinning starts on the top portion around the hair partition
Stage 2: The hair partition starts widening and shows increased thinning
Stage 3: The hair thinning progresses and results in visible portions of scalp
Can Genetics cause Female Pattern Baldness?
Female pattern baldness can occur in females who are genetically pre-disposed to such loss of hair. Some women tend to carry genes that make hair follicles susceptible to destruction due male hormone DHT.
The hair follicles get affected and it produces shorter or thinner hair. The anagen or growth phase is also reduced from normal 3 years to few weeks or months whereas the telogen or the falling phase increases. Resulting in lesser and lesser reversibility of the hair fall. Which in turn results into increased scalp visibility.
What can you do about Female Pattern Baldness?
Depending on the cause of hair loss and the severity of the situation it may be unlikely that you can reverse male pattern baldness. However, we offer several programs for hair loss and hair and scalp issues.
Laser - Laser or low level light therapy has been shown to be beneficial to hair in several studies. Both in clinic treatments and hand held laser therapy is available. In addition, larger laser models can be bought for use in salons/ hair replacement studios.
Mesotherapy - Mesotherapy rejuvenates the dormant hair follicles by increasing the supply of oxygen and nutrients that go into the scalp. This is a similar biological process to Minoxodil however the most important difference is with Mesotherapy hair loss does not resume after stopping use but with Minoxodil hair will resume falling out as soon as you stop using it. In addition, Mesotherapy can restore your scalp matrix to youthful levels by delivering all necessary vitamins, minerals and amino acids for proper functioning of nutritional and energetic metabolism
DHT Inhibitors - These are products that either interfere with the conversion of Testosterone to di-hydro testosterone (DHT) or help to block DHT from binding to the hair follicle. DHT is the major cause of hair loss for both men and women. See why our products and are different and better than others.
Hair Vitamins - These products help to aid in growth of hair; either by inhibiting DHT and/or providing the vitamins and minerals that optimizes good quality hair growth. These products can be oral or topical.
Growth Stimulation - Your hair needs certain vitamins to grow to its fullest and thickest. Most people do not get enough of the right vitamins & minerals for their hair. Our hair Vitamins provide all the clinical proven vitamins and minerals but do much, much more. They block DHT and help grow hair.
Hair and Scalp Cleansing - These products are optimized to give your hair and scalp the nutrients that are needed without adding harmful chemicals like sodium laurel sulfate, cocamide DEA or alcohols which are found in 95% of shampoos. Most shampoos strip your hair of the essential oils that hair needs, ours do not. Proper hair and scalp hygiene and nutrition is the first step to healthier, thicker, fuller hair.
