DHT, which stands for Dihydrotestosterone, is a male sex hormone that is directly correlated to Testosterone.

As we age, DHT is synthesized in the adrenal glands, hair follicles, testes and prostate in increasing levels.

How DHT leads To Hair Loss

As a consequence of changes in the body that lead to excess DHT levels, adult men and women and can lose a great amount of hair - men more commonly than women.

Male and Female pattern baldness, also known as androgenic alopecia or androgenetic alopecia, is caused by the hair follicle's sensitivity to DHT.

DHT causes follicles to shrink, resulting in a shorter lifespan and the abnormal production of hair.

Experts say that 95% of cases of pattern baldness occur because of the effects of DHT on the hair follicles. How much DHT a person produces depends almost entirely on their hormonal make-up - the more that is produced, the greater and more widespread miniaturization is, resulting in greater hair loss.
